I have experience as a press officer for a national charity and have been employed on a consultancy basis to carry out marketing and promotions for several other companies and charities.
I have experience in hosting small to large events and over a 10 year period these events have brought approximately 30,000 people in total. Wherever possible publicity and promotions have been done on a shoestring budget – there are great opportunities if approached in the right way!

'ShoeStringMedia - Publicity & Communication on a Shoestring Budget’ was launched in 2013 in response to numerous requests for media training from charities and small businesses looking for help with publicity but uncertain how to go about this on a limited budget. These courses have proved very popular with demand from all over the UK and 300 to date have now attended, picking up skills on how to be better equipped to make the most of the media. This day is for everyone who says “we can’t do marketing - we have no budget” and is designed to show that so much can be achieved with a limited or ‘shoestring’ budget. Ian G Black has teamed up with one of the country’s most prestigious hotels The Balmoral to offer a dedicated Instagram Walking Tour of Edinburgh.
As Scotland’s capital city and a UNESCO designated World Heritage City with stunning Georgian and medieval architecture, it’s little wonder that Edinburgh has become a must-snap destination for Instagrammers across the world.
With a skyline dominated by Edinburgh Castle and The Balmoral’s majestic clock tower, the city is rapidly becoming a popular location for film shoots with both the upcoming Avengers and recent Trainspotting blockbuster movies filmed in the capital.
About the tour: A city with so much to photograph on every corner, our very own tailored Instagram City Tour will help you capture Edinburgh in the best possible way, sending you home with lots of #BalmoralMoments to upload and share with your followers. The half day morning – departing from the hotel at 10am (arrival to the hotel 9:30am) – will take you to the following Insta Hot Spots: Calton Hill, Stockbridge and Dean Village and St Mary’s Cathedral.

Your Camera and or smartphone
Flat shoes, light waterproof jacket and umbrella
Price: £75pp (3.5 hours)
This includes welcome tea or coffee at the hotel, a drink at a local bar or cafe en route and a power bank to charge your phone
Tours will run on the following dates: Friday 18th August, Friday 1st September, Saturday 2nd September, Friday 15th September, Friday 6th October, Saturday 7th October and on the first Friday and Saturday of every month thereafter.

TERMS & CONDITIONS The Promoter is The Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh Limited. Registered address: 1 Princes Street, Edinburgh, EH2 2EQ Edinburgh Instagram City Tours are available to residents and non-residents Edinburgh Instagram City Tour groups will comprise a minimum number four people and a maximum of 10. The rates, terms and conditions applying to groups are conditional upon a minimum of four people booking. In the event this number is not reached, the hotel reserves the right to cancel the tour. Payment for The Balmoral’s Instagram Walking Tour is expected upon booking. All amounts are payable in GBP. Edinburgh Instagram City Tour is subject to ambient weather conditions. In bad weather, The Balmoral withholds the right to cancel the tour and will refund any payments made but will have no further liability. Edinburgh Instagram City Tours can be cancelled with 24 hours notice and The Balmoral reserves the right to change the route of the tour at any point. Participants retain the copyright of their photographs. IanGBlack Media is an independent contractor and as such any views are his own. The Promoter is not responsible for missed tours due to lateness, travel delays or ill health. The Promoter is not responsible for any personal accidents, injuries or death incurred as part of the Edinburgh Instagram City Tours. Participants undertake the tours at their own risk - the Promoter accepts no responsibility for tours that are not completed due to a technical fault, malfunction or software failure of any kind 100% cancellation charges will apply if tours are cancelled less than seven days in advance. By submitting a booking form, participants agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions and confirm that they are eligible to do so. If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the tour.
